Reactions and directions December 9, 2008

I’ve been contemplating a post for a long time: my reaction to the election. That post is still pending, as I am still sorting through my feelings and deciding how best to present my thoughts in an even manner, rather than the way I want to present them, which will most likely invite the trolls and not serve anyone well. So I’ll remain mum on political issues for now, at least in this public forum.

Instead, I have been focusing most of my energies on learning Japanese. That is going well, by the way: I have finished one book of kanji (Remembering The Kanji), and I am already on to another.

I don’t know where learning Japanese will take me, but this is the direction in which I feel led, so I will continue to pursue it. Part of the reason I know that God is involved is that I have been able to stick with it for this long–six months–and that’s a rare thing for me. Usually I’m off onto the next thing within a few weeks or months. It’s funny, though: whenever I feel like giving up, another bit of encouragement comes my way. I’ll make a new friend that lives in Japan. Maybe someone will send me something, or I’ll discover a new web site that will encourage me on further. It’s nice to know I’ve finally hit on something that’s ‘it’, that’s right.

Usually when there’s a disappointment, we tend to dwell on it and just get stuck there, angry, frustrated, and miserable. I have decided that I will use the frustration to just ignore politics in general. I listen to what’s going on, pray, and just leave it alone. Only prayer is going to solve the problems we have today…only God can help us, and in the end, we have to know that no matter what happens, as Christians, we have the knowledge and the hope that we will be taken care of, that ‘his eyes are on the sparrows’, so he will certainly take care of us.

You know, I need to look into getting the kittyloaf books. I will see if I can get them; I bet they’re written in easy Japanese, so maybe I could read them to my kids. Thanks for the reminder. If I do get them, I will send you pictures for your kittyloaf collection.
